Rethinking the way we build cities for new climates.

We are a young design and research studio based in Copenhagen, Denmark. We have a special interest in climatic urbanism - the intersection between city, nature and people - in the northern regions. As architects and urbanists, we work on projects ranging from the architectural to masterplan scale to convey and shape the impact of climate on the urban landscape.

As climates become more extreme, so will the demand on our energy and infrastructural systems to provide the more stable climatic conditions our cities have previously been built for. A new urban approach is needed where an awareness of multiple climatic zones and weather phenomena are brought together in a hybrid of building, landscape and infrastructure. We have to begin to plan for and design cities as part of larger, regenerating and self-sustaining metabolisms.

The core team of Studio VÆR consists of founders Charlotte Lin Pedersen and Elaina Keppler, in addition to a range of interdisciplinary project collaborators. Charlotte Lin Pedersen (Cand. Arch MAA) holds a master's degree from the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London and a master's degree in architecture from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture. Elaina Keppler (Cand. Arch MAA) holds degrees from the University of Victoria, Canada and from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture.
