LIVING INSIDE OUT
Competition proposal / Copenhagen, Denmark / Sept 2019
We took our starting point for this in-fill micro housing project from the historical references of life in Copenhagen’s courtyards. By necessity due to the tight space, the architectural language and the life that unfolded within it, became extroverted. This sprawling expression with extensions, exterior stairs and hallways made it explicit that life in the city was shared with others. We took this concept and updated it to fit the contemporary ideal of shared living, with a sustainable focus. Sharing resources is critical in light of our current climate crisis, and is beneficial both on an environmental and social level, creating community based on shared values. The building concept is flexible and can be adapted to the individual resident, providing good conditions for living both inside and out.
