Rethinking the way we build cities for new climates

SKÆRING BÆK

Competition proposal / Skæring Bæk, Denmark / Oct. 2019. In collaboration with Alessia Cacopardo

With this project we wanted to build a sustainable neighbourhood and create an identity that balances the urban and the rural, where the nature of the area is preserved and strengthened. The main concept of the plan is a layering of scales in a modern village. The objective is to create an example of best practice of sustainable urban conditions using passive house principles. The project offers large green spaces with a community garden and food forest and connection to the surrounding nature areas. The plan envisages a neighbourhood of two storey houses based on a Japanese typology, with shared living areas and limited car access. A lake in the middle of the residential area provides water handling and connects to the existing creek.
